Stephan February

Stephan February is a software engineer who works in regulated financial institutions and has a love of distributed computing and peer-to-peer networking. He is the author and maintainer of the libraries documented on cryptopeer.net.

The cryptopeer libraries are built to let applications connect devices directly, without a central server in the path. Where a server is required for offline communication, Ricochet reimagines the model of the SMTP server as a modern peer-to-peer analog: an encrypted store-and-forward service.

  • UDX: a reliable, multiplexed transport over UDP, modelled on QUIC, with implementations in Dart, Go and TypeScript.
  • dart-libp2p: a full libp2p implementation for Dart and Flutter, with Noise, Yamux, relays, hole punching, GossipSub, a Kademlia DHT and Bitswap.
  • Ricochet: store-and-forward messaging and storage for peers that are offline, with a Go server and a Dart client.

The Dart and Go stacks speak the same transport and protocols, so a Flutter app and a Go server can connect to each other directly.
